The pervasive and repetitive images that we don’t pay much attention to, the images that gloss over their actual meanings and redirect us away from our harder truths is the core of my overall practice as an artist and the central reference for this show. Easter bunnies are a constantly recurring image here, exposing their double function as both a representation of spring fertility, but also now, in our contemporary culture, an image that has morphed into a consumerist representation of faux innocence. (Or – if the goddess is transgressive turn her into a cute easter bunny for sale.) My aim is to question the patriarchy and how it uses this visual backdrop to reinforce society’s power hierarchies and how we are all complicit with the ways this parade of images reinforces our culture’s rules and myths.
